Notch Above Bread
Located above the 'notches' of New Hampshire and nestled in the deep White Mountain National Forest, Notch Above Bread is a modern bakery that uses traditional bread-making practices but raises them a notch above to create their own bread and pastry recipes.
The baker's journey started in 2002 when he opened his first store for a brief two years before an unfortunate fire in the building. This led him to take a break from his small passion and return to his medical practice as an Emergency Room physician for the next 20 years. Upon retiring from the ER, he went back to bread making with his Quebec-style wood-fired oven and a full baker's kitchen, selling his delicious goods at local farmers' markets.
The Notch Above Bread logo is inspired by the rhythmic practices of baking and takes on the form of a morning sun rising over hills with a balance of negative and positive space. The geometric logotype stands out among its more ornamental counterparts, creating an identity that is new yet familiar. Using a classic brick-red color palette evokes an old-school feel while remaining fresh and current - reflecting the brand's mission as they expand across the North Country.
